Well, after a little inactivity I thought I would share some of my thoughts on the COD Scene.
Big arguement at the moment is going on wheter to keep on playing COD4 or returning back to COD2. I think the problem is Infinity Ward/Treayarch are too busy making money they don't focus on the game enough. The past 2 years they released COD4 and COD:WaW and this year MF2 is coming up. So that makes the count 3 Years 3 Games.
If you start looking back to when vCOD game out, back 2003 it was a hit. I never played the game as I was stuck to Medal Of Honor at that time. They game was popular and had a great multiplayer was said. Not much of sponsor got into this game, because CS was really hitting that scene.
As a follow up to vCOD, COD2 was made. Exactally 2 years and 2 days later the game hitted the shelves and was really popular. It was vCOD basicly, with mayor graphics updates and gameplay updates but the setting was still the same. The game still is popular and going strong after 3,5 years. Too bad companies never got into sponsoring COD2 big time, because I think it could have gone big. I switched from SH to this game, because you could find a team to play against, which didn't have a cheater in their line-up.
Now COD4 was a big hit too, with a lot of players taking a look in that game. Players from ET, COD2, CS 1.6 and CS:S switched to COD4 because of all the great stories told about the game. Unfortunately most of them switched back, because they didn't like the game/couldn't reach the level they used to play on in their previous game. Especially COD2 players switched back and started the revival of the COD2 Community. This revival got into a fast pase after the summer LANs in 2008. I understand people want their old game back, but I think it will never be the same again, because you can't rebuild a Community which formed in 2 years, in just half a year. And now with the diversity in the scene, the community will never grow back to it's original size. The recent decision of bringing XAC to ClanBase wil surely help bringing back the quality in the COD2 scene, but it also filters out a lot of players and therefore the community will shrink, although I think this shrink is a good thing. I'd rather have ugly and small tree with 25 apples then a large tree with 10 apples.
In my opinion sponsor should look at COD2 as a very interesting game to put some money in. This will enhance the level in the game and filter out the pro's from the wannabe's. Hackers have their pride on the inet and will dodge back if a LAN is annouced.
Just my two cents on this mather. /Flame On!
